I’m Joël Karel, an Assistant Professor at the Maastricht University Department of Knowledge Engineering. My research interests include Biomedical Signal and Image Processing, Time-Frequency analysis, Wavelet Design, Ultra-Low Power Implementation of Wavelets. I apply my research actively in the biomedical domain in close cooperation with University Medical Centers, Hospitals and research institutes. I’m a member of the IEEE.


I’m born’n raised in Maastricht, The Netherlands and father of two beautiful daughters.
